Shockwave Therapy to Treat Foot Pain

Many patients come to our office with heel pain, Achilles tendinitis and multiple types of sports injuries.

At Dr. Scott Russell Podiatry and Orthotics we also provide shockwave therapy service. Shockwave therapy relieves pain quickly, speeds up recovery, and improves mobility. Patients can often avoid medications or steroid injections for their injuries because it is a non-surgical treatment, which can shorten healing time. Shockwave therapy can help you heal faster from acute or chronic pain.

What is Shockwave Therapy?

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT), commonly known as shockwave therapy, is a non-surgical treatment for painful disorders used in orthopedics, physiotherapy, and sports medicine. It helps with Achilles tendinopathy, gluteal (trochanteric bursitis), patellar tendinopathy, Plantar fasciitis, Insertional Achilles tendinopathy, and other tendon ailments that haven’t responded to previous therapies. Shockwave therapy involves the use of a machine that sends an acoustic ‘pulse’ into damaged tissue via a particular hand piece, with the goal of relieving pain and stimulating a healing response.

Non-Invasive Technology For Pain Relief

  • The procedure is performed in our office, and patients experience no down time. After the treatment, many patients experience immediate relief from their symptoms which continues to improve with subsequent treatments over a 3-5 week period.

  • We see a high level of successful outcomes using shockwave especially when traditional conservative treatments have not been effective.

Since we treat many athletes, I can really appreciate new non-invasive treatments like shockwave that helps keep my patients out of surgery and back in the game. If you're experiencing chronic foot and ankle pain, or if you're suffering from an overuse injury, contact Dr. Scott Russell Podiatry & Orthotics to determine if you are a candidate for Shockwave Therapy.
